FAQ
BubblyNet App
Can I use the BubblyNet App with any Bluetooth® luminaire?
The BubblyNet App works as a commissioning tool as well as a User Interface for any Qualified Bluetooth® Mesh system (whether BubblyNet or not). The App works on iOS and Android devices, and it is free to download. Click Here For More Info
Can I use the BubblyNet App to control my lights from an off-site location?
No. To control your BubblyNet controls system from off-site, you would need a Gateway. This allows for remote access to the network as well as cloud connection to BMS, voice control services and more. Click Here For More Info
What is a proxy and how does that work in the app?
A “proxy” node can communicate Bluetooth® Mesh and Bluetooth® Low Energy; Bluetooth® Low Energy is the Bluetooth® standard used at the moment by most consumer products such as smartphones and tablets (Bluetooth® Low Energy is a point-to-point standard while Bluetooth® Mesh is a many-to-many standard). Bluetooth® Low Energy devices can communicate with a mesh network via a proxy node.
Can I limit what users of the BubblyNet App can control?
Yes, the app can be accessed, depending on credentials, at different levels of complexity, making it extremely intuitive for the end user. The app has 3 levels of control: Basic User, Advanced User and Pro User.
I opened the app and used the controls but nothing is happening?
When the app is first opened it will need 5-10 seconds to connect to a proxy. Once the app has connected to a proxy the communication with the devices in the network is active. Another method to ensure you are connected is the Proxy Picker icon where you can manually select the proxy to connect too.
Why is my username a random series of characters?
Depending on how long you've been using the BubblyNet mobile apps to manage your Bluetooth® Mesh Networks, you may have been assigned a "generic account". This account was created so you could back up and restore from our Cloud Services.
This user account will provide you access to back up your networks to our cloud, access to other Cloud services like remote access, OEM Tool management, and network permissions management.
It is highly recommended to update this "generic account" to something more standard and useable like a normal username/password account in your App Settings.
What are basic, advanced, pro user levels?
Our user account systems are based on user roles for easier network management. Any network you personally create on the App will be assigned a Pro user with all rights to network management and control. If BubblyNet creates a network for you, we will be Pro and only assign Advanced level unless the user has gone through BubblyNet's approval or training process.
- 1. A Basic user is a person who can access the network for control but can not modify the network. They can access groups, control the Bluetooth® Mesh groups and devices. They can access remote control.
- 2. An Advanced user is a person who can access the network, add devices and groups, and has all the same control rights as a basic user. This is enough for the majority of use cases.
- 3. A Pro user has all the abilities of an Advanced user, a Basic user, and full control to the network. A Pro user can modify any value on the network and can also damage the network. Because of this, Pro user rights should be limited to one person on a network.
If needed and upon request -- BubblyNet's support team can add Pro permissions on a limited-time basis.
Can I change user permissions for my users on my network?
You can change the permissions on a network by accessing "Permissions Manager" from either the mobile application (Network > Settings > Permissions Management) or the Cloud Services Permission Manager.
This web application is used to manage the existing users of a Bluetooth® Mesh Network. From this tool an Advanced or Pro level user can do the following:
- 1. Manage existing users' access levels.
- 2. Search for users and directly add an existing user to the mesh network.
- 3. Generate invite emails for sending to new users.
Note: Changes are dependent on your user level. An advanced user cannot change themselves to Pro but a Pro user can change an Advanced user to Basic.
How do I leave a network?
You can leave a network in two ways.
You can immediately leave the network via the app by accessing the network's settings screen and pressing the "Delete Network" button.
The other way to leave a network is to remove your permission from the "Permissions Manager" located on the network settings screen. This method does depend on your user level.
How to switch between networks on a phone/tablet/iPad?
Before switching between networks, make sure to upload the current network to cloud. Click on ‘Networks’ to open list of all the networks associated with the account. Click on a different network other than the current network to switch.
